PLOT
Kaiji Itou eventually returns to his previous way of life as a result of mounting debt. One day, when he is crossing the street, he encounters Yuuji Endou, who is on the prowl for Kaiji because of the debt he owes to the Teiai Group. Unaware of this, Kaiji joyfully pursues Endou in hopes of getting an opportunity to play another game of chance. However, when Kaiji is kidnapped, he discovers the loan shark's true motivations. The Teiai Group puts Kaiji to work in a clandestine labor camp since he is unable to settle his enormous debt. He is informed that he must spend the next 15 years living in this hell with other debtors before he can earn his release. Saving enough money to be able to return to the surface for a single day is his sole chance to put an early end to this horror. Once there, he intends to place a high-stakes gamble in order to win the remaining funds required to clear his account. But sooner than he had anticipated, Kaiji may have to turn to gambling due to the numerous temptations that threaten his meager income.
