PLOT
The science fiction setting of Green Legend depicts a post-apocalyptic Earth that has largely transformed into a vast desert following an alien invasion in which six "Rodo" (a race that resembles giant monoliths) crashed onto the planet and somehow caused a significant change in the climate that has completely eliminated the oceans and rain. Green Legend shares this theme with other environmentally conscious anime like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind; in terms of aesthetics, it resembles Future Boy Conan and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water. At the time, mankind was destroying the environment, making some sort of apocalypse inevitable. Two polarized factions have emerged in this harsh new world: the first is the "Rodoists," a fanatical religious sect that worships the Rodo while enforcing hydraulic despotism; all communities are gathered around one of the monoliths because they are the only sources of water and food left; the majority of this food is gathered quite close to the monoliths in what they refer to as the "Holy Green." Travel between settlements is rare because, beyond a certain range from the monoliths, the atmosphere becomes unbreathable, necessitating pressurized spacecraft analogous to spaceships. The "Hazard," a covert revolutionary movement hostile to the Rodoists, makes up the second faction.
