PLOT
Kanbaru Suruga, the keeper of the Monkey's Paw, is one of the few recognized faces left at Naoetsu Private High School now that Koyomi Araragi and Hitagi Senjougahara have graduated. She immediately assumes that the reports about the "Devil," a mysterious creature that can magically fix any issue, are about her and makes the decision to look into them. She learns that Rouka Numachi, a junior high competitor who is now giving free advise to anyone who seek her out because she is unable to play basketball due to a leg injury, is truly the Devil. She enjoys playing the role of a collector of bad luck, alleviating her clients' stress by giving them the illusion that their issues will be resolved. Kanbaru, relieved that she is not the source of the stories while seeing no actual harm being done, reprimands Rouka for lying and leaves for home. But she might need to worry after all if she notices that her left hand has changed back to human form.
