PLOT
Benio had several awkward interactions with the dashing army lieutenant Shinobu Ijuin one day (voiced by: Katsuji Mori). The next time Benio sees Shinobu, she assaults him with her kendo stick when she gets home. However, she is shocked to learn from her father (Ichiro Nagai) that Shinobu would marry her as a result of an agreement struck between the Hanamura and Ijuin families before Benio was born. Benio wants to break off the engagement since his friend Tamaki is in love with Shinobu and he doesn't want to hurt Tamaki. Benio is moved by this unexpected act of compassion and chooses to disregard Shinobu in favor of accepting Tosei's marriage proposal. In the quake, Lalissa loses her life while attempting to save Shinobu. As she lies dying, she advises Shinobu to wed Benio and find happiness. Tosei tries to save Benio, but she rejects him and would rather die with him than live without him. As a result, Tosei saves Benio and Shinobu. In the end, Onijima returns to Manchuria, Tamaki decides to accompany him, Benio and Shinobu are finally married, and Tosei reconciles his sentiments toward his mother and recommits to his business.
