PLOT
Beginning in the year 2300, Space Runaway Ideon is set far enough in the future for humans to have started colonization other planets. Three enormous armored tanks with the power to combine into a godlike mecha, the Ideon, were discovered on the planet Solo in the Andromeda Galaxy by a team of archaeologists. They also come across the Solo Ship, a huge spacecraft. They have been painstakingly repairing the machinery for six months, but they have been unable to move the enormous tanks. The Buff Clan, a humanoid alien culture, unexpectedly encounters Solo. In defiance of orders, Karala, the youngest child of Doba Ajiba, the military leader of the Buff Clan, travels to the planet with Mayaya to conduct an investigation (her commanding officer, Gije, is reluctant to go with her due to her standing and the fact that he once was a soldier under her father). Gije-sent soldiers are close behind her, but they can no longer see her. The Buff Clan launches an assault after presuming that the "aliens" (Earthling colonists) have assaulted Karala. The series' protagonist Cosmo Yuki and his pals Kasha Imhof and Deck Afta board the three automatically activating tanks, which then unite to form the Ideon and resist Gije's soldiers from their initial attack.
