Like children in any other culture, Japanese children learn to tell and hear stories from their parents and grandparents. The prince from the moon who is found within a bamboo, the boy born from a peach, the old guy who can make a dead cherry tree blossom, etc. Traditional moral ideals have been passed down from generation to generation through these short stories that encourage children to view both the positive and negative aspects of life.
