PLOT
Ordinary elementary school student Illyasviel von Einzbern transforms into a magical girl when Kaleidostick Ruby decides she would make a better master than the sorceress Rin Tohsaka. Having been assigned by the wizard Zelretch to gather the seven Class Cards that each hold a Heroic Spirit from mythology, Rin discovers that she is powerless to influence Ruby's decision and must instead oversee Illya while she completes the collection of the Class Cards. A girl named Miyu, the contractual master of the Kaleidostick Sapphire, which similarly abandoned its original master and Rin's competitor, Luvia Edelfelt, becomes Illya's buddy and rival during her adventures. After several conflicts, Illya and Miyu were successful in collecting all the Cards and developed close bonds with one another, but Rin and Luvia were forced to stay in Japan by Zelretch. Kuro, a girl with black complexion who resembles Illya remarkably, eventually complicates their life as she makes an effort to kill Illya. When Illya's mother, Irisviel, shows in, their combat is halted. She tells that Kuro was supposed to be the Holy Grail in the Holy Grail War, but after the war was averted, Kuro was locked away so Illya may lead a regular life. Kuro joins the Einzbern family and receives the mana she needs to maintain her corporeal form from Illya.
