Days chronicles Tsukushi Tsukamoto's tribulations as a shy, awkward, and bullied adolescent set to enter high school. In order to be near Sayuri Tachibana, his next-door neighbor and childhood buddy who is a year older than him, he decides to enroll in Seiseki High School. Jin Kazama intervenes to protect Tsukushi just as he is being bullied after seeing Sayuri at work. He scares the bullies away by assaulting them with nunchucks and claims to be a vagabond and lost in town. Then, as his team is missing a member, Jin asks Tsukushi whether he enjoys playing football and invites him to join him the following night for a futsal match. After yet another run-in with his bullies, Tsukushi surprised Jin by coming up after jogging over 10 miles through the pouring rain and without a single shoe. Tsukushi, who is short, young, and awkward, plays terribly but continues to run throughout the entire game despite having hurt his foot, putting in such effort that it inspires his other teammates. Tsukushi manages to score the winning goal after a final run, but only after hitting his head against the pole. He subsequently learns that Jin will also be a freshman at Seiseki and decides to join the football team to play with him, not realizing that the football team in Seiseki is well-known throughout the nation and is supported by students from all over the nation. Due to his tireless efforts and remarkable endurance, he is able to join the team despite being exceedingly feeble, weak, and clumsy. In addition, he demonstrates incredible ability in inspiring the other members of the team to work as hard as they can.
