High school student Daichi Manatsu works for the Globe (Gurbu) organization to operate a massive robot known as the Earth Engine Impacter (su Enjin Inpakut) in order to defend the planet from an alien invasion force known as the "Kill-T-Gang" (Kirutogangu), which wants to siphon off all of humanity's life force in order to grant itself immortality. Globe begins assembling allies to help Daichi, such as Teppei Arashi, a Kill-T-Gang whose memories have been erased and stuck within a human body, Hana Mutou, a strange girl related to the ship Blume, and Akari Yomatsuri, a 17-year-old brilliant hacker. Together, they establish the Midsummer's Knights and engage in combat with the Kill-T-Gangs, who are looking for additional partners. The series starts when brilliant scientist Roger Newton, his wife Elaine, and his colleague Simon Wright depart from Earth in order to conduct research in a secluded laboratory on the Moon and to avoid the extortion of Victor Corvo, a dishonest politician who wanted to profit from Newton's inventions. Simon's body is old and ill, but Roger gives him the ability to carry out research by implanting his healthy brain into a synthetic casing. Together, the two scientists design Grag, an intelligent android, and Otho, an android with shape-shifting powers. On the moon one day, Corvo kills the Newtons, but before he can profit from his heinous deed, Grag and Otho slay Corvo and his killers. After the Newtons pass away, Otho, Grag, and Simon Wright, an unusual three, are left to raise their son Curtis. Under their guidance, Curtis develops into a bright scientist who is also as swift and powerful as any Olympic athlete. He also develops a strong sense of duty as he gets older and aspires to use his scientific expertise to benefit others. He introduces himself as Captain Future with that objective in mind; in later stories, Simon, Otho, and Grag are referred to as the Futuremen. The elderly space marshal Ezra Gurney, the stunning Planet Patrol agent Joan Randall, and James Carthew, the President of the Solar System with an office in New York City who contacts Future when he is in dire straits, are other recurring characters in the series. Ul Quorn, the sole recurring antagonist in the series who appears in two different episodes, is Captain Future's archenemy despite the fact that he has many foes throughout his career. He is known as the Magician of Mars because he is partially Martian, but he is also Victor Corvo's son, who killed the Newtons. Scientist Quorn has prowess on par with Captain Future.
