PLOT
"Ayakashi" is a Japanese anime television series that originally aired in 2006. It is a horror and supernatural drama composed of three separate, unrelated stories, each based on a classic Japanese horror story. The first arc, "Yotsuya Kaidan," is an adaptation of a classic Japanese ghost story. It tells the story of a betrayed servant who takes revenge on his deceitful lover and the friend who betrayed him. The second arc, "Tenshu Monogatari," is a love story between a forgotten goddess and a human. The goddess is doomed to turn any human who sees her into a beast, but she falls in love with a young man nonetheless. The final arc, "Bakeneko," tells the story of a medicine seller who exorcises malevolent spirits from people and buildings. This arc was later spun off into its own series, "Mononoke." "Ayakashi" stands out for its exploration of traditional Japanese folklore and its distinct art style, which varies with each arc to suit the tone of the story. It combines elements of horror, fantasy, and romance, creating a unique viewing experience.
