PLOT
Around the beginning of the Meiji era in Japan, Appare Sorano, a quirky inventor and the second son of a reputable merchant family, makes the decision to embark on an adventure. Kosame Isshiki, a samurai, is tasked with controlling Appare's bizarre behavior. Kosame mistakenly leaves them both stranded at sea while dragging Appare back to Japan; however, a passing American steamship saves them just in time. Appare and Kosame, who are now stranded in Los Angeles without any money and with no easy means to get back to Japan, decide to participate in the "Trans-America Wild Race," which will provide Appare the chance to create a custom car and give Kosame the chance to make enough money to go back home. As they attempt to win the race, the two of them will have to cooperate while fending off other competitors, bandits, and other obstacles.
