PLOT
Humanity has developed hIEs, human-like robots that serve society as both personal and public employees, thanks to significant technological developments. Arato Endou, a kind-hearted high school student, treats hIEs on a same footing unlike many others, but his financial circumstances prevents him from ever buying one. However, a routine trip to the neighborhood grocery store goes horribly wrong, shattering his daily life. Arato is brutally attacked by a hacked hIE and is on the edge of dying when a strange hIE carrying a weaponized coffin intervenes to save him. Lacia is one of five extremely sophisticated hIEs that recently managed to get away from the enigmatic MemeFrame Corporation. Arato and Lacia are in danger of being struck by a car when Lacia makes him a deal: in exchange for sparing his life, he must register the automobile as his own and accept complete responsibility for her conduct. He has little choice but to trust this fake girl and let her live in his house. Lacia tells the entranced Arato that she does not have a soul, despite the fact that she is beginning to become used to her new, calm lifestyle.
