PLOT
Hanae Ashiya's high school career has not had a smooth beginning; he has spent the entire first week in the hospital, and his mysterious ailment is only getting worse. The mysterious fuzzy monster that has become entwined with him ever since he came across it the day before school started is the source of his suffering. Hanae discovers a poster promoting an exorcist who banishes youkai while his health continues to deteriorate and the thing increases in size. Calling the number out of desperation and with nothing to lose, he is directed to the Mononokean, a tea establishment that unexpectedly arises adjacent to the hospital. Haruitsuki Abeno, a depressing-sounding man, reluctantly assists Hanae but demands payment afterwards. Much to Hanae's dismay, he is unable to pay the charge and is forced to work at the Mononokean in order to pay off his debt. And to make matters worse, one of his classmates also happens to be his new boss. Hanae must cooperate with Abeno to lead a variety of risky, peculiar, and fascinating youkai back to the Underworld if he ever wants to pay off his obligation.
