PLOT
A city-sized alien spacecraft collides with the Earth's South Ataria Island in 1999. The military group U.N. Spacy rebuilds the spaceship over the period of ten years, reversing engineering its technology, and gives it the name SDF-1 Macross. A young civilian pilot named Hikaru Ichijyo visits the Macross in 2009 at the Macross launch ceremony at the request of U.N. Spacy pilot Roy Focker. A galactic war fleet from a race of humanoid enormous aliens enters the solar system during the launch ceremony and recognizes the Macross as a former battleship used by their adversaries, the Supervision Army. The original systems take control of the ship's commands and fire its main weapon as the aliens, known as the Zentradi, get close to the Macross, eliminating the advance alien scouts and sparking a conflict. The aliens retaliate as Hikaru tests the brand-new VF-1 Valkyrie. After that, he runs upon Lynn Minmay, who he saves from the invaders. The experimental "Fold System" (faster-than-light drives) is used by the Macross crew in a bid to escape to the Moon's orbit, but instead unintentionally sends the Macross and South Ataria Island to the edge of the solar system. In addition to attaching two aircraft carriers to the ship, the crew of the Macross salvages all they can, including the city that surrounds the ship and its residents (who have survived in unique safety bunkers that were taken along intact). The Macross must use conventional power to return to Earth because the fold systems disappeared after the jump.
