PLOT
The Lord of Nightmares, who fashioned at least four parallel worlds, is the supreme deity in the Slayers universe. The Lord of Nightmares' quest to reclaim its "true form," which can only be accomplished by destroying these worlds and bringing them back to the chaos (sea of darkness) that it itself is, is described in the Claire Bible, an artifact. But for some reason, the Lord of Nightmares hasn't yet carried out this wish on its own. Gods (shinzoku, lit. "godly race") and demons (mazoku, lit. "devil race") battle ceaselessly on each of these realms. If the gods prevail in a world's conflict, that world will be at peace. If the monsters succeed in destroying the world, the Sea of Chaos will once again become their home.
