PLOT
The protagonist of Skip Beat! is sixteen-year-old Kyoko Mogami, who adores Shotaro Fuwa, her childhood buddy, but who is betrayed by him. She gained a lot of knowledge about hospitality and other related professions through spending a significant portion of her youth at Shotaro's parents' inn. In order to help him pursue a career in music, Shotaro asks Kyoko to leave high school and her life in Kyoto Prefecture and flee with him to Tokyo. Shotaro does not want to take over his parents' business. After moving to Tokyo, Kyoko leads an absurdly frugal lifestyle and works multiple jobs to support Sho, as he is affectionately referred to by his fans. She spends no money on herself and devotes all of her time and resources to Sho, who eventually rises to become the seventh-most popular male celebrity in Japan. She once overhears Shotaro criticizing her to his manager, calling her a dull and uninteresting girl who he views as a doormat. Contrary to his typical icy and stern demeanor with Kyoko, he then begins to flirt and sweet-talk with his manager.
