PLOT

Following the events of Saber Marionette J, Otaru and the girls carry on with their daily lives, and Lorelei works on the cloning project to bring back human females into the community. The first few episodes center on the girls' individual development and their interactions with those around them. Faust's Saber Dolls continue to reside in Japan, but as they also experience emotional growth, they start to feel restless and long to be with their master. They interpret Faust's sending them an envelope with nothing inside but a blank sheet of paper as a request for them to return to him. They said the marionettes a sorrowful farewell before leaving Japoness. Lorelei starts to feel constricted by her overprotected existence inside the walls of Japoness Castle, in contrast to the carefree lifestyle of the marionettes, and begs Otaru to help her escape for a day. Lorelei is successfully smuggled out of the castle by Otaru and the marionettes, but their act of kindness backfires when she is taken hostage—apparently by former Gartland regime officials. When Otaru tries to liberate her, a power-crazed Faust who is once more focused on conquest and who is accompanied by the Saber Dolls, who appear alarmed by Faust's return to his evil past, confronts him. Everyone quickly understands that the Faust who committed the kidnapping is actually a clone being controlled by Doctor Hess when a second Faust appears. Doctor Hess and a member of the Xian government scanned Lorelei's brain for information while Otaru and the marionettes were busy with Faust, but they managed to depart without disclosing their true intentions.
