PLOT
The comedy series centers on the antics of Haruhi Fujioka, a scholarship student at Bunkyo, Tokyo's famed Ouran Academy, an exclusive private school for wealthy children. Haruhi discovers the Host Club, a group of six male students who congregate in the Third Music Room to amuse female "clients" with food, themed events, and flirty talk and conduct, while searching for a peaceful spot to study. During their first meeting, Haruhi accidently damages an antique vase worth 8,000,000 (about $80,000) and is forced to work as the club's messenger to pay the bill. The Hosts initially mistake her for a male student because to her short hair, slouchy clothing, and gender-ambiguous face; nevertheless, they quickly come to understand her true gender and the fact that she's a "natural" at entertaining girls. In reaction, they make the decision to "upgrade" her to a member of the Host Club in order for her to pay off her debt by obtaining a specific number of clients by the time she graduates, all the while hiding her gender from the other students as well as their developing feelings for her.
