PLOT
The Principality of Zeon has separated itself from the Earth Federation and begun a struggle of independence known as the One Year War in this alternate universe (Universal Century year 0079 according to the Gundam Calendar). Every continent on Earth has been directly impacted by the conflict, as well as almost every space colony and lunar outpost. Zeon, despite being smaller, has the tactical advantage thanks to their usage of mobility suits, a novel class of humanoid weapons. The war ended in a fierce standoff that lasted more than eight months after killing half of all humankind. The plot opens with the recently deployed Federation vessel White Base traveling to the covert research facility at the colony Side 7 to retrieve the Federation's most recent weapon. Zeon soldiers, however, are closely after them. Most of the Federation crew and inhabitants were killed in the attack on the colony by a Zeon reconnaissance team member who disobeyed mission orders and attacked the settlement. Young Amuro Ray stumbles onto the RX-78 Gundam, the Federation's new prototype weapon, out of desperation and uses it to repel Zeon soldiers. The White Base embarks on her voyage to survive with her newly formed crew of civilian recruits and refugees, scrambling to do whatever they can.
