Mazinger Z

Mazinger Z is a massive super robot made of a fictitious metal called Super-Alloy Z, which is created from a brand-new element (Japanium) that can only be found in the sediment of Japan's Mount Fuji. The Mechanical Beasts of Dr. Hell, who serve as the series' representation of the forces of evil, inspired Professor Juzo Kabuto to build the mecha as a covert weapon. The latter was the German member of a Japanese archaeological team that unearthed the remains of the Mycéne Empire on the island of Bardos. One of their discoveries was that the Mycene employed an army of 20-meter-tall steel giants. After discovering remote-control versions of those titan prototypes underground and recognizing their great power on the battlefield, Dr. Hell goes insane and orders the deaths of all the other members of his research team, save for Professor Kabuto, who is able to flee. The lone survivor returns to Japan in an effort to alert the rest of the world to the impending danger there. Dr. Hell constructs his headquarters on a moveable island, creates the new Underground Empire, and makes plans to dominate the world with the Mechanical Monsters. To combat this, Kabuto builds Mazinger Z, which he completes shortly before being killed by a bomb set off by Baron Ashura, a half-man, half-woman who serves as Hell's right-hand man. He is able to explain the robot and its function to his grandson Koji Kabuto as he is dying. From that point on, Koji fights both the ongoing mechanical creatures and the evil goons dispatched by Doctor Hell in his capacity as the robot's pilot.
