PLOT

Shinkawa, a city bordering Tokyo's Sumida River, serves as the setting for the town where the main character Rei Kiriyama resides. The residence of the Kawamoto family is located in Tsukuda, which is connected to the community where Rei resides by the Chuo bridge. The shogi hall in the manga is based on the Japanese Shogi Association's Sendagaya headquarters and is located there. In a childhood accident, Rei Kiriyama's parents and younger sister perished. He then began residing with the household of his father's friend Masachika Kda. Rei left his foster family when he was an adult because he felt he was only causing trouble. He is now alone and doesn't have many pals. Three sisters from the Kawamoto family—Akari, Hinata, and Momo—are among those he knows. Rei contends with his personal growth as well as his development as a professional shogi player as the plot develops, while also fortifying his bonds with others, particularly the Kawamoto sisters.
