PLOT
The anime is set in the Tokyo neighborhood of Shinjuku in the year 22 HC (Holy Century). In reality, the story focuses more on the lives of the main characters, such as Natsuki Sasahara, Sakura Bokuseiinmonzeninari, and Batanen Fujioka, even though the plot is theoretically about the rivalry of rival private police corporations (licensed bounty hunting firms) in a world where humanity is in danger of extinction. The monsters are typically modernized versions of Japanese folklore. Repeat criminals in Tokyo have their memory erased in the anime. They are castrated in the manga adaptation, though. In this world/setting, there is a substance called mithril, which is a kind of specifically enchanted silver that works particularly well against supernatural beings.
