PLOT
Each volume and episode of Golden Boy opens with Kintaro standing next to a young, attractive woman, whose interest in or contempt for him forms the core of the story. Some of these women dare Kintaro to show their supremacy after originally dismissing him as a stupid and awkward pervert. Kintaro consistently has a voyeuristic want for these women and indulges it as he satisfies his desire to provide real assistance to them. He keeps expanding his professional and personal knowledge of the world as he attends to their needs. In spite of his external look, Kintaro is a remarkably intelligent and resourceful person who routinely outperforms the expectations of the ladies he meets. In spite of his apparent discomfort, he ultimately wins their hearts. But Kintaro never makes use of these fresh emotions out of chance, necessity, or sense of honor. The manga serial continues, introducing fewer women over several chapter arcs—such as a shoplifting schoolgirl—and returning to ladies he has impacted earlier in the narrative.
