PLOT
The Shizuma Drive puts an end to the depletion of petroleum supplies and the need for nuclear power in the retro-futuristic world where the series is set. The system powers everything on land, at sea, and in the air using a reusable, non-polluting energy source. A group of scientists under the direction of Professor Shizuma developed the ground-breaking system ten years before the events of the series. At the beginning of Giant Robo, the BF Group is in the middle of recreating the event with assistance from the resurfaced von Vogler. In the process, they almost destroyed the world and one of their own, Franken von Vogler, was lost in the incident that went down in history as the "Tragedy of Bashtarle."
