PLOT
The anime centers on Shirou Emiya, a diligent and honorable kid who unwittingly participates in the Holy Grail War's fifth edition, a battle royale in which participants use magic and legendary Heroes to fight for the chance to have their desires come true. Shirou was adopted by a retired magus named Kiritsugu Emiya, who passed away a few years later. Shirou was abandoned as a youngster and the lone survivor of a terrible fire in Fuyuki City. Shirou developed a great yearning for justice and peace as a result of his emotions of guilt over those who died and his father's role in his salvation. He diligently develops his body and meager magic skills in order to aid others, even if they frequently take advantage of his charity. Shirou unintentionally stumbles into Archer and Lancer, two warriors, engaged in combat at his school one evening. Lancer attacks him and almost kills him, but Archer's master, Rin Tohsaka, is able to save him just in time. Lancer strikes once more, but just as Shirou is about to perish, he unintentionally summons his Servant, Saber, saving his life. With this summoning, Shirou formally enters the Holy Grail War as a Master by gaining the Command Seal marks on his hand.
