Fate/Apocrypha is an anime series set in the "Fate/stay night" universe, an expansive franchise based on a visual novel by Type-Moon. Unlike the other "Fate" series, "Fate/Apocrypha" occurs in a parallel world where the Holy Grail was removed from Fuyuki City after the Third Holy Grail War and disappeared for many years. The series is centered around the Great Holy Grail War, a conflict that erupts when the Holy Grail resurfaces in the city of Trifas, Romania. In this war, two factions, the Red and Black, each summon seven Servants to fight for them, including the newly created Ruler class servant. On the Black Faction's side are the Yggdmillennia, a family of mages who possess the grail, and on the Red Faction's side are representatives from the Mage's Association, who seek to reclaim the grail. As the battle begins, a variety of heroic spirits from history and mythology, each with their unique abilities and personal motivations, clash in a spectacular war.
