PLOT
Arata has always anticipated leading a life of his own as a young lad from a noble family in Amawakuni—that is, until news of the princess's deteriorating health reaches his city. Since there are no more girls to succeed the princess of the matriarchal Hime clan, he is now the next in line for the throne, which his grandmother said he was female at birth. Arata, who is posing as a woman waiting for a replacement, observes the princess's own guard, the 12 Shinsho, attempt to kill her. Arata is forced to flee to the Kando forest, where it is rumored that no one emerges the same, after being accused of the crime. Arata Hinohara, a young man in contemporary Japan, yearns to flee his bullies at school. He loses track of his intended course after hearing his name called from an alley and unintentionally switches universes with Arata from Amawakuni. Hinohara sets out to restore order to this new world using his own might as a recently awakened "Sho"—a warrior with the ability to use Hayagami, weapons with the power of the gods—and the assistance of his allies he meets along the way.
