PLOT
It has been a century since "real magic," which was once regarded as only folklore and tradition, had developed into a widespread form of technology. One of Japan's nine magic academies, First National Magic University Affiliated High School (First High), accepts Miyuki and Tatsuya Shiba as two talented siblings. Based on the results of the entrance exam, First High divides its students into two groups, Course 1 and Course 2. The Course 1 students, who also refer to themselves as "Blooms," treat the Course 2 students with evident contempt by calling them "Weeds." While his sister Miyuki enrolls in Course 1 as an honor student, Tatsuya gets accepted into Course 2. Miyuki wants to prove to First High that, in spite of her brother's reputation as an amateur magician, he is actually one of the best in the world. From the perspectives of Miyuki and the other female characters, Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei retells the events of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.
