PLOT
The protagonist of the novel is Himeko Nonohara, popularly known as Hime-chan, a boastful, aloof, and naive thirteen-year-old girl who worries about being the largest tomboy in the school. Himeko's only desire is to emulate her older sister Aiko and become a proper, feminine young woman so that she might approach Hasekura, her secret crush. Himeko is unexpectedly accosted one night by a girl who resembles herself almost exactly, floating outside her bedroom window. She learns that the girl is the Magical Kingdom's Princess Erika. Erika says that each member of the Magical Kingdom has a corresponding member in the Human World and that Erika must present Himeko with a specially made magical object in order to verify her royal status. Himeko is given one year to test the usefulness of this object—a red hair ribbon—and determine if Erika will succeed to the throne.
