PLOT
The two guys in the story are Shurato Hidaka and Gai Kuroki, who had been closest friends their entire lives despite being complete opposites in terms of appearance and personality. They are engaged in a martial arts competition when all of a sudden, they are engulfed in a light beam and taken to Tenkkai, a parallel universe where technology does not exist and people instead rely on spiritual energy known as Sohma. Shurato learns that he is really the same-named ancient king who previously governed this world and one of the "Hachibushu," a group of eight legendary fighters with a lot of sohma who were sent here with Gai to battle the Asura Gods, a horde of destructive warriors. Gai continually tries to kill Shurato, but for some reason he doesn't know, leading Shurato to believe that the real Gai is the most kind and pacifist person he knows.
