PLOT
In 2000, author and creator Kou Yaginuma published his first book, "2015:Fireworks" (2015, "2015 Nen no Uchiage Hanabi"), which served as the foundation for the backstory of Twin Spica. Yaginuma created a future history of the advancement of Japan's spaceflight program in it and his later writings. He brings readers to a time after the 2010 launch of the Lion (, Shishig), Japan's first manned space mission. When the liquid rocket booster fuel catches fire 72 seconds after takeoff, the mission is a complete failure. When mission controllers are unable to initiate the rocket's abort process, the rocket crashes into Yuigahama, killing numerous civilians.
