PLOT

Many individuals compete against one another in street fights in order to grow stronger behind the scenes of the bustle of daily life in Tokyo. 16-year-old Maki Aikawa is a high school student. Maki, a former gymnast, has adapted her skills to street fighting, a different way of life. The excitement and pressure she feels while fighting are the only things that actually make her feel alive. She fights opponent after opponent with incredible strength and grace, consistently showcasing the gymnastic skill that gives her the nickname "Air Master" on the street. Maki eventually learns about the "Fukamichi Rankings," a sort of fighting league. The top martial artists and street fighters in the world are ranked in the Fukamichi Rankings. There are several reasons why the Fukamichi Ranking battles are held. First and foremost, a lot of fighters want to challenge themselves by rising to the greatest rank and pushing themselves to the absolute limit. The events do have a business component, too, as fans from all around the world flock to watch the bloody yet breathtaking showdowns. When a Fukamichi ranker wins a fight, they are each rewarded a certain sum. By competing against the best fighters in the world, Maki climbs the Fukamichi Rankings in an effort to slake her craving for the pressure or thrill she can only get from fighting and to establish her place in this world.
