PLOT

The animated series offers fresh content and characters while largely based on Part One and the beginning of Part Two of the novel. [3] The March family is shown in the first episode of the series living contentedly close to Gettysburg (the nearby town of York in the English version), until Mr. March spots Confederate scouts one day while having a picnic. Mr. March, a Union Army officer on leave with a broken arm, reluctantly departs from his family to alert his superiors and get ready for the impending war. His family also endures the Confederate occupation, even preventing an escaped slave called John from being coerced into joining the Confederacy's army. After some time, Union soldiers show up, and the resulting conflict results in the destruction of the March family home and the theft of their investment, which had also been their money. Without any other choices, the family travels from Gettysburg to Newcord in the hopes of being picked up by a father's estranged aunt. When they arrive in Newcord, the elderly woman is unwelcoming, and David, the conceited nephew who continually begs for loans and enrages the family, is even less so. Despite the response, Aunt March lets the family remain at home until they can resume their normal lives. Meg gets work as a governess in order to maintain some semblance of normalcy while Jo swings between being an author and Aunt March's companion. Anthony, a local reporter, presumptuously criticizes her work and her character during a sales pitch to sell a short article to a local newspaper. Jo, who is upset and determined, pours herself into her work and, as a result, gains Anthony's respect and establishes a friendly connection. The March family eventually moves into a new house, and the subsequent incidents start to make references to the storyline of the first book: The 18th episode, which continues the first section of the novel, is based on Chapter 3. In episode 21, the plot of Chapter 1 (Christmas 1863) starts.
