INFORMATION

PLOT

Ten-year-old Ash Ketchum lives in Pallet Town and is eager to begin his journey in the world of Pokémon. However, on the day that he is supposed to acquire his first Pokémon, Ash oversleeps and wakes up in a panic, stumbling into Gary Oak, who would eventually become Ash's opponent. When Ash finally makes it to Professor Oak's Lab, the local Pokémon researcher has already sent the three Pokémon (Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle) he trusts to new Pokémon Trainers away. He offers Ash a Pikachu, which is the last Pokémon he has. Ash does his best to befriend Pikachu because he is determined to complete his journey, but it doesn't trust him, stays away from the Poké Ball, and even attacks Ash with its electric abilities. Pikachu only understands how much Ash cares after Ash defends him from a horde of enraged Spearows. As he travels across the Kanto region, Ash makes friends with Brock, a Pokémon breeder, and Misty, a trainer of Water Pokémon and a former Gym Leader in Cerulean City. Jessie, James, and Meowth are low-level members of the criminal organization Team Rocket who aim to steal Ash's Pikachu and any other unique Pokémon they come find. The three trainers work together to foil their goals. Giovanni, Team Rocket's leader, presented Cassidy and Butch, two new, highly-placed Team Rocket members who seek to kidnap Pokémon so they can use their techniques. For the Indigo Conference League, Ash receives eight badges from Gym Leaders in the Kanto area. Ash reaches the Top 16, but loses to Ritchie in the fifth round, dropping him to the Top 32. Gary loses in the fourth round, dropping him to that position. Assunta defeats Ritchie in the sixth round, knocking him out of the Top 8, and an unidentified trainer wins the Indigo Conference League.
